The life and career of the revolution one-man film that is George Lucas receives a lush visual processing Hearn frankly adoring and critical beautiful book, although there are many intelligent text behind the art as well. The first two of eight chapters of the book is the best covering Lucas's childhood days and student film at USC, which culminated in the masterpiece THX 1971 1138 1973 and emblematic American Graffiti. Hearn deftly portrays this turbulent period in the life of Lucas, where the director was furious to experiment with form and work within the short duration of the film in San Francisco collective American Zoetrope with friends Francis Ford Coppola, master writer Chief Walter Murch, and the legendary filmmaker Haskell Wexler. This section is fully illustrated with photographs, publicity stills and script excerpts, and images of young Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss and Lucas himself entertain the fans.
Once Hearn begins to delve into the stratosphere high Lucas film Star Wars, and the creation of a mini-Hollywood in the Bay Area, however, not the book. Hearn their religion can not explain adequately how the long-haired rebel turned into a mini-mogul he is today. However, it is an important addition to the library not only to fans of Star Wars, but all lovers of modern cinema. (March)
